Director, JNCA and Neuroscientist, Harvard Medical

Deepti Navaratna is a neuroscientist and musician currently serving as the Regional Director, Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Bengaluru, India. She heads the centre’s research, academic and outreach activities at the intersection of science and humanities, with a focus on Indian knowledge systems. Deepti holds a doctorate degree in neuroscience, and after several years of research at Harvard Medical School, her current research focus is on the neuropsychobiological aspects of music perception and cognition. She is the first Carnatic Classical musician to study Contemporary music at the prestigious New England Conservatory of Music, Boston. She is an A-grade artist of the All India Radio since 2001, and has released two albums of contemporary Carnatic classical music.
